My work addresses ancient and recurring human movement patterns now unfolding with the force of billions on the planet. I use drawn, painted and projected marks, as well as live performances and public installations to highlight the instability, violence and potential of human motion – individual and collective - and the ebb and flow of its destructive, cataclysmic, and chaotic force. I use charcoal, chalk, string, stones, light, paint and human bodies to explore the impact of human movement on our surroundings in ways we know and perceive but cannot always see. The work submitted is a collection of images I have collected from Brooklyn over the past 4 years that include an overwhelming sense of collective movement, energy, hope, and effort. It puts many faces, many bodies and many voices into an image of collective force, and collective, polyphonous voice that animates some of the most iconic landmarks of the city. I also want to highlight the force, poetry and potential of the individual - in part free from and in part tethered to our communal behaviors.
