Shanequa Benitez & Barrington Brissett
Shanequa’s art is her heart, her pain, her love, her fears, her doubts, her beliefs, her traumas, and her purpose! Her creative process stems from emotions, current events; things she’s witnessed and things she’s experienced. “Never Conform” is a way of life for her, and she includes it in her work often. When you combine "not conforming" and "creating art" you get raw brutal honesty. And that something you will always see and feel in my work.
Barrington is a native NY artist of Jamaican descent. Through his work, Barrington wants black people to feel seen and valued, and he often refers to his art as a love letter to his culture. His work highlights black people's history, contributions, and unique features. Barrington's work also recognizes how influential black people are in current pop culture, and his pieces often reference music, films, and comics.
While his preferred medium is acrylic paint, Barrington also uses oil, fabric, and leather because he believes that any medium and surface can be the vehicle and the canvas.
