Born in Japan, Tomo Mori is a Harlem-based painter and collage/fiber artist. She received a BFA from Atlanta College of Art in 1995 and worked for an international news agency for over 11 years. The experience of seeing the world from the newsroom planted seeds for her mission as an artist today.
Tomo is currently a studio artist at the Children’s Art Carnival, facilitating community workshops. In early 2023, she participated in the workspace residency at Wave Hill.
'Eyes quietly speaking' is an unforgettable visual memory of raising a child in recent years. There were an overwhelming number of social issues during and after the pandemic: BLM, hate crimes, homelessness, and mental health issues, all condensed in a short time while we were trying to keep ourselves safe from COVID-19.
