This painting tells the story of a woman who I met at an Indian snack shop in NYC. She weighs jalebis at the counter. As I stood in line waiting for my turn I observed how efficient and good she was at her job. I was intrigued by her personality so I decided to stay back and chat with her.

She told me how she made breakfast, lunch and dinner at home for her kids and husband before she came to work at her second day job. In her other free time she worked at a threading salon.

This is the story of countless women I have known who work so hard for their families and more times than less they never get their due. Some of these chores are looked down upon as not cerebral and hence not worthy of respect and this has been a bone of contention with me since the longest time.

She talked about how what she does was looked down upon by many but she fights and survives everyday for the sake of her children. Her story of resilience and grit brought tears to my eyes and I decided to paint her.
