Expressing myself visually has always been a part of me. My childhood temperament was painfully shy, verbal communication difficult and I was careful to speak my mind. I credit this mindset with honing my observation skills and looking at the many layers of a situation. When creating art, expression is deliberate, thoughtful and meaningful.

I create paintings that tell stories and connect with emotions. Interpretation of nature, shapes and figures are achieved by transferring photos and text onto  canvas then applying many layers of transparent or opaque colors, lines, textures, patterns, and shades.

In the set of paintings, I Am Woman, three women's faces rise above words that make up what women are to and do for their family, friends, and work. As natural multi-taskers, daily we rise to the occasion of taking care of everyone’s needs.

Inspired by the beauty of the physical eye and iris, a deeper meaning of “seeing” emerged. The phrase “I See You” does not only describe the action of seeing, it also implies that we can rise above what is immediately visible and focus our attention on understanding and acknowledging another person.

In the painting “Keep Breathing”, a woman’s profile arises through the chaos, which is depicted by images and phrases from the media. Her gaze is forward with persistence and determination for a better future.

While I am fearlessly using a conceptual, multi-layered, bold and colorful approach, I continue to have a visual conversation with the viewer and make connections.
