Derek French
Based in New York City, my career began during the COVID-19 pandemic, documenting New York healthcare workers during their joyous 7 PM celebrations. America’s modern civil rights movement would show growth amidst the uncertainty of a future during that pandemic. This would not hinder me, as I would continue to refine my journalism skills as a Senior Correspondent to New York City Protest Coverage. Following groups across state lines, I would document Black Lives Matter riots, the communal response to I.C.E. detentions, and environmental change demonstrations. In time, it knew it was essential to educate myself on issues that stretch beyond the borders of my community and country. How else to do that than cover responses to international conflicts. The invasion of Ukraine, elections in Brazil, the removal of Allied forces in Afghanistan, and the Tigrayan genocide would be some of the many events I would dedicate my time to. In 2022, Shutterstock Editorial would commend my work and provide an opportunity to represent them as a long-term correspondent at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. In my early career, my work has been featured by reputable news agencies like The Washington Post, CNN, CBS, New York Post, The Guardian, and other global papers.
