FEATURED ARTIST
CARMEN PAULINO
Carmen Paulino is a fiber artist and a muralist. She works on providing community art and programming in hospitals, community centers, and senior centers around New York City. Raised in East Harlem, her love for the arts was inspired by her mother and grandmother, both fiber artists, and by her father, a musician who performed in several salsa bands. As a child, Carmen watched the women in her life crochet, knit and sew traditional quilts while listening to the stories and sounds of their latino culture. She also drew inspiration from the murals in her diverse, vibrant neighborhood. These experiences she shared with her family and living in a multicultural neighborhood have infused Carmen’s work, but her unique style and techniques, and her desire to share these with a wider audience, are what make her Carmen the Community Artist.
