My work in Hudson River Park started with a grant from NoMAA to create a series of park landscapes in 2011 and I have continued, always finding new inspiration. I’m interested in how local people hold their celebrations and enjoy social activities along the river. I paint on location observing whoever is there that day directly capturing the essence of the event and the place. The volleyball players began when I started doing quick sketches of the players on my way home from a plein-air painting session and they inspired a series of paintings where I incorporated the figure’s action into my onsite landscapes. Most of the painting is done onsite but I will combine figures from sketches or photos as needed to continue working in the studio. My work is about the community’s interaction with our parks and how important it is to their lifestyle.
