In the city or beyond, Nature is my starting place. My mixed media collages reflect my contemplative deep-looking at the natural world. My current work explores the connections between Nature and the urban environment at the edges where they meet. Those edges are the essential places of connection between human activity and the natural environment. They can be found among schools of fish swimming below the traffic on the George Washington Bridge, among frogs hidden in vernal pools within the urban woodlands of upper Manhattan and the northwest Bronx, and at the thresholds of seasonal change in the forests of Van Cortlandt Park. By exploring such unexpected juxtapositions between Nature and urban life in my work, I hope to expand and enrich a communal sense of place, possibility, and connection---both to the earth and to one another.
