My work represents a fusion of Eastern and Western sensibilities.  For nearly two decades I studied  traditional Japanese brush painting (Sumi-E) with the venerable Sensei Koho Yamamoto,  in Soho, Manhattan.  I am a  past  President of the NY chapter of the Sumi-e Society of America.  The NY chapter was for several years an active participant of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s annual Sakura Matsuri  (Cherry Blossom Festival).  In recent years I have honed my skills in more traditional  Western art at the Art Students League of New York, where I have specialized in drawing the human figure.  I feel very fortunate to have had expert instruction in these two divergent artistic expressions.  An overarching element of my work has been my professional interest as a working psychologist  in mindfulness meditation, which helps me to focus on the essence of my subject while attempting to blend the best of Eastern and Western artistry.
