I believe that the role of the artist is to communicate, document and inspire thought. The artist must evoke the energy of feelings. The artist must also document history and culture. By documenting events and people in our past we keep alive the energy from the past. We live in a culture with selective memory where history and the contributions of individuals is erased or forgotten.
MATH IS COLOR BLIND celebrates the women who made significant contributions in their field to help the NASA space program.
BESSIE COLEMAN was the first African American woman to obtain a pilot's license in 1920.
These women had difficult journeys in a society that discriminated against the color of their skin and their gender. Today we must celebrate their tenacity and their achievements for we owe a lot of our “literal” journeys to them.
