Jessica Dixon

For me, painting is a form of self expression, so it is like my therapy. I specialize in creating images of black women to show our resilience, inner beauty, and hope. For so long, the narrative for black women has been seen as angry, dominating, and overly sexualized while that is not always the case. I enjoy creating paintings that highlight black women in a positive, inspiring light in the midst of darkness. I make art that will inspire women to be their very best. The images are faceless so that the buyer can see themselves in the painting, as a form of positive visualization. My process for creating is very spontaneous, I create what is in my head, I don't always start with a sketch. It is very liberating, because you I do not know what the end product will look like, and that is exciting.
