Artist Statement

The obvious depiction of the theme “Intersections” in my work “Crossroads” is the view of First Avenue and 60th Street complete with the looming Queensboro Bridge and the Roosevelt Island Tram. One can also see the convergence and intersection of lines in their respective architectural designs. Time and weather can alter this scene, but otherwise it remains mostly the same. The less obvious and always changing intersection is that of the diverse lives on New York City streets. As we make our way through busy crossroads, dodging taxis, puddles, people looking down at their phones, and other distractions, we pass people from all walks of life. Do our eyes ever meet? Do we acknowledge the strangers in that brief moment?
