Elements of Art

The seven basic elements of art are:

Line- straight, curvy, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, broken, spiraled, thick, thin

Shape- two-dimensional enclosed space with length and width, can be geometric or not

Form- three-dimensional shape with length, width and height, can be geometric or not

Texture- what an object feels like to touch, or what it might appear to feel like

Value- the lightness or darkness of a color

Space- the area around, above, and within an object, positive space where objects are, negative space around or between

Color- primary colors, secondary colors, warm and cool colors, complementary colors

Artists use these elements to make us FEEL.
