My primary focus is on figurative oil painting, blending the weight of emotions with the whimsical aspects of life to create narratives that delve into viewers' own experiences. Recently, I've concentrated on miniature paintings, matchbox dioramas, and mixed media shadow box pieces, challenging myself to handcraft as much as possible. In all of the pieces submitted, 99% of the work is constructed by hand, from the doors and moulding, to the mortared brick walls. Inspired by the Bed Stuy community where I've taught art for over seven years, my work mirrors its architecture and community spirit. As the visual art teacher at the Brooklyn Brownstone School, I've nurtured connections with students and families, introducing students to local artists’ work through projects and studio visits. Though not residing in Brooklyn, it holds my deepest artistic and personal ties. Walking its streets, I'm captivated by its history and stories, seeking to convey the spectrum of emotions from sorrow to hope. My pieces serve as visual meditations on life's universal struggles and triumphs, encouraging viewers to engage with empathy and self-reflection.
