As a writer and artist, I’ve discovered the beauty of the fact that there are times when art offers a meaningful, visual interpretation of thoughts and emotions that words simply cannot express. My art is an adventurous exploration in which color can be a feeling, the curve of a line can capture an emotion, and aesthetic accents emerge from layers of charcoal shading, splashes of ink or randomly placed pieces of paper glued to a page.

My art speaks to the awakening of the world, colors, senses and the environment that each focal point in the artworks live amongst.

THE CITY IN MY DREAMS represents the awakening of the senses for a city made up of colors, shapes, lines and eyes. The background composition made me think of a city and the feel of it at night with the lights peeking out of windows and buildings that stand tall and amazing. If you close your eyes and think of the city at night, what are all the things you can see?

THE CITY IN MY DREAMS
(a poem by Patricia Gordon)

I can see the city through lids that are shut tight.
Buildings in the form of lines,
Slips of paper replacing concrete and glass.
I see the night lights in spaces of white.

I can dream with eyes shut,
almost hearing the beeps of horns, the voices and footsteps of a city that never sleeps.
But who sees me?
Eyes staring out of corners, through the darkness and slips of color,
Curious gazers,
I see them clearly in my dreams as I hover within a city that always hustles and bustles even while I sleep.

If danger lurks, I am blind to the harm.
For the charm of the urban mystique lulls me into dreamland.
It says, “Live and breathe me. Let me dwell in your mind and blood. If you can slumber within me, we are truly one.”
