Our Team

Barbara Anderson

I live on the Upper West Side, and I am a middle school teacher in an international school. I teach English and History, so narratives, voice and perspective are my thing. Art can tell a powerful tale, and this project is all about spotlighting artists with different perspectives and stories to share.

The reason I want Art on the Ave to happen is because, though it’s been a difficult time, an outdoor socially-distanced gallery walk is a great way to learn about, talk about and think about others. I can sit at home uncertain about the future, or I can try to do something positive.

Jackie Graham

I am a high school social studies teacher. I also work as the Program Officer of an arts council and have a Masters in Art Business. In my roles, I strive to activate my community and work to open people’s eyes. I am inspired by the prospect of Art on the Ave and its potential to spread stories that would otherwise go unheard.

Art has the ability to transmit emotion in a way that other mediums do not. I hope that the pieces we showcase throughout this project will be a representation of the struggles of this and past years, and a symbol of hope for the future.
